Loon Lake in Northern California

Loon Lake can be reached from Highway 50. It is about 53 miles from Placerville. The elevation is 6,400 feet and the scenery is incredible. There is a trail that you can reach from the campground. Fee is required to camp at Loon Lake unless you will find an available free spot on the other side of the lake, which are limited. If you hike in the hot summer time, make sure to bring enough water. There is not a lot of shade along the trail.




Trailheads:
Drive through the campground to the end where parking is available.

Easy to Difficult : Some sections are rocky, which is a little hard on the doggies, but the little ones can just be carried through those sections.

Dogs allowed

Terrain: Earthy grounds, some sections are rocky and slippery. Not a lot of shade, bring lots of water. Steep in some sections.

Camping: Fee required for camping.

Trail Notes: Some sections are rock and could be a little challenging for the doggies. Some sections are steep. Not a lot of shade. Stay close to the lake if you just like to take a stroll.
